Advancing Human Dignity Through Local community Support

The Inkind Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to strengthening the communities where we live and work. Founded by Irene and Mitchell Morris, our goal is to provide fast-turn microgrants, typically ranging from $100 to $3,000, to support select individuals and local impact oriented charitable organizations in four key areas:
  • Education
  • Individual Stability
  • The Arts
  • Community Improvement
For more than five years, our work has been powered by personal giving and support from Inkind Thrift, our community resale store. Note: in 2026, Inkind Thrift will began its transitions into a nonprofit-operated model, allowing more of its revenue to directly support our grant awarding capabilities.

Supporting Today. Strengthening Tomorrow.

As the Foundation grows, we welcome donors who want their life’s work to create enduring community impact. Many people, regardless of income, estate size, or family circumstances want to see their communities thrive long into the future. Some have no direct heirs, others simply prefer a local and meaningful alternative to traditional giving options. We honor all of these paths and the generosity behind.

The Foundation now accepts a range of contributions, including:
  • Cash gifts
  • IRA and retirement account designations
  • Life insurance beneficiary designations
  • Real estate
  • Vehicles
  • Personal property suitable for resale

These gifts help strengthen the Foundation’s perpetual community endowment, designed to fund microgrants for generations to come. Recognition in perpetuity is always optional and we understand that some donors may also opt to choose for complete anonymity.

How we operate

The Foundation aims to build a long-term endowment guided by a responsible spending approach:
  • 4–5% annual distribution based on a rolling three-year average
  • Donors may choose ongoing (perpetual) or spend-down designations
  • Grants are issued quickly to address real needs in real time
Our work is overseen by a Board of Directors and vetted fiduciaries who ensure legal compliance, donor intent, and long-term sustainability.

a community effort

Our donors along with, Inkind Thrift continue to play an important part in our mission. Donations, volunteer support, and store purchases help generate ongoing revenue for grants and community programs. You can learn more about thrift operations at inkindthrift.com.
